The Silhouette

Real Name: Jamie Murphy

Background: Jamie Murphy was a merchant seaman, adventurer and two-fisted brawler with a reputation from Singapore to San Francisco. One foggy night in Japanese-occupied Shanghai, he came upon a group of men in dark robes attacking an old Chinese man. Full of bravado and rotgut, Jamie leapt into the fray, but he was no match for them--they fought like demons.

Jamie found himself floating in a lightless void. The old man who he had tried to rescue appeared and told Jamie that he was dead. But Jamie's brave intervention was enough to let the old men defeat the assassins in black robes. The old man, Lo Pan, explained to Jamie that he had been killed by assassins from a group devoted to the worship of Kali, the goddess of evil. But, Lo Pan was a wizard, and with potent sorcery, he could return Jamie's spirit to his body.

Jamie was in his body once more, but now he possessed strange powers. He could become a sort of living shadow, and move in the night without trace.

For saving his life, Jamie pledged himself to the service of the wizard. In his secret identity as the Silhouette, he became a terror to evildoers worldwide. Later, he was recruited by Captain Fortune for the Victory Squadron.
